MALMAISON HOTEL

YORKSHIRE HOUSE

YORK, UK

Lightivity were appointed as lighting consultants on this major redevelopment project.

The1960’s former Aviva office building in central York is currently being converted into a luxury 150 bed Malmaison Boutique hotel.

The building sits adjacent to the River Ouse in a sensitive location in front of the listed Cedar Court Grand Hotel and York's historic city walls. It also has direct views to the neighbouring York Minster Catherdral and as such the project has had to undertake extensive consultation both with Historic England and the City Planners.

Lightivity were asked to develop and design a sensitive and considered lighting scheme to the external and internal areas of the hotel.

The design encompassed the main entrance and reception area, dining & bar areas, business lounges and meeting rooms, gym, circulation routes and guest rooms. The design also called for a new roof terrace bar which was extensively designed and modelled to ensure that the lighting scheme didn't create any adverse impact or light spill on the neighbouring historic sites or detract from the Cathedral when viewed from the historic walls.
